Imagining Indigenous Worlds with Unity: July 2020 – WAMP

  • Location: Online
  • Date: July 6th – 10th, 2020
  • Duration: 5 days
  • Instructors: Maize Longboat, Waylon Wilson

Overview: Back by popular demand! After the success of the first edition of the online Imagining Indigenous Worlds with Unity workshop, IIF partners AbTeC and Western Arctic Moving Pictures (WAMP) hosted another workshop just four weeks later. Skins Associate Director Maize Longboat and Graduate RA Waylon Wilson once again served as instructors, with RA Kahentawaks Tiewishaw participating as an Instructor-in-Training. A total of eight Indigenous youth engaged with the game design technique of environmental storytelling to create their own unique narrative-driven explorable game worlds. The AbTeC Discord server continued to prove invaluable for creating virtual meeting spaces where live lessons were conducted and technical issues were troubleshot. Many participants described their experience in this Indigenous-led Unity workshop as empowering and now feel well positioned to continue to make games using Unity.
