Seventh Generation Character Design – Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery

  • Location: Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery, Montreal, QC
  • Date: November 14th, 2017
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Instructors: Skawennati, Jason Edward Lewis, Suzanne Kite, Maize Longboat

Overview: Using pencil and paper, Indigenous participants of all ages were guided in designing futuristic characters. Our premise that the participants would have descendants was questioned and a rich discussion emerged.

This edition of the workshop also informed IIF PhD student Suzanne Kite’s creation process for “Listener,” an iterative, site-specific performance artwork engaging with Lakota epistemologies through computational media, machine learning algorithms, and narrative.
