7th Gen Character Design – STEAMpunks Summer Camp
- Location: Concordia University
- Date: August 2nd, 5th, and 11th, 2022
- Duration: 2 hours
- Instructors: Kahentawaks Tiewishaw, Anastasia Erickson, Caeleigh Lightning
Overview:
In this summer camp special, the Skins team taught a series of three workshops to young Montreallers at Concordia University during the month of August. With a total of 23 students, it may have been our biggest non-video game cohort yet! Over the course of three days, students learned 7th Generation Character Design, Interactive Storytelling with Twine, and Game Design with Bitsy, covering a range of mediums for creative storytelling. In this first workshop of the series, students used their imaginations to dream up fun characters ranging from future descendants to wacky, Japanese ramen-inspired characters.
- STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) activities nurture creative, technical and interpersonal abilities all at once, and that is the central principle of STEAMpunks, a new initiative from Concordia University for students aged 15 to 19. The first iteration of STEAMpunks is an in- person day camp that will primarily take place in Concordia’s EV (Engineering and Visual Arts) building at the downtown Montreal campus from August 1 to 12, 2022. Twenty-five campers will participate in a range of hands-on workshops, laboratory visits, physical activities and outings — designed and guided by university and college educators to inspire learning in a fun and engaging way.
