Morgan Zoe

Panelist, Panel 5 – Decolonial Tools

Mogran Zoe is a Tłı̨chǫ artist from Behchokǫ̀, NWT. This year in their work they asked themselves futurism questions. One of these questions was “Where is humanity’s future going with regards to technological upgrades and the increasing amount of interconnection across our world?” I want to give the viewer a glimpse – into the not too distant future – of what we might become, what could happen, and what the future could look like; a passive aggressive hippie dystopia like in Demolition Man (1993), or a gritty hard-boiled post apocalyptic nightmare like in Mad Max (1979). These are two examples of possible extreme realities. As each year goes by, the line between man and machine gets more blurred and shorter. Breakthroughs in medicine and technology help build the world of tomorrow. Body augmentations and cybernetic enhancements will be the new normal for those who could afford such costly procedures. Humanity’s future is a complicated equation. Many variables are dependent on our collective actions and reactions, but whatever we may choose, time moves forward.
